The beaches around Durness and Achmelvich are spectacular at any time of year, but autumn brings a different atmosphere. White sands, turquoise water and dramatic skies make these fantastic places to stop for a walk and take in the scenery.
The famous Bealach na Bà climbs through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Highlands before descending towards Applecross.
If you’re planning to drive the pass, check the weather and road conditions beforehand, as the route is steep, winding and not suitable for all vehicles in poor conditions.

Autumn is also the time of the red deer rut, when the sound of stags calling can be heard across parts of the Highlands. If you’re lucky, you may even spot them while exploring the area.
