After spending many years touring the UK & Scotland, both camping in tents and in our own campervan, we decided to set up “Highland Auto Campers”.
Now we offer you the chance to fall in love with this beautiful country for yourself, by hiring or owning one of our award-winning Auto Camper campervans…
Hi! We are Mark & Alicia, owners of Highland Auto Campers. Campervans are our passion, and our aim is for all our customers to experience the unique Scottish Highlands in an amazing campervan – which we think is the best way to see Scotland!
Let’s tell you a little about our journey so far… We started our outdoor camping adventures in a 2 man Vango tent. We went on many trips with this trusty tent, the most memorable was to the west coast of Scotland and a particularly stunning campsite right on the beach near Arisaig.
Then along came Tammy, our 7 year old rescue Springer Spaniel. All of a sudden, a 2 man tent wasn’t quite big enough for us, all our gear and a wet dog! So, we upgraded the tent to a much bigger 4 man – Tammy ended up with her own area and it worked really well for a while….
Then along came Billy, a 4 year old rescue spaniel! The 4 man tent still worked well for the 4 of us, but a campervan had caught our eye. It was a Mazda Bongo, we borrowed her from a friend for a weekend away – and we were hooked! After camping in tents for years, the ease of setting up camp was a revelation! One weekend, we set off for the lake district after work on a Friday. Arriving after dark, we stopped in the local town for fish and chips, then headed to our campsite. Within 5 minutes of arriving, we had the pop-top roof up, bed made, and were sat eating our supper at a proper table!
We didn’t need much convincing, and bought “Brenda the Bongo” pretty soon after. She needed a little TLC, and we made some changes to the internal layout – and in return she gave us years of faithful service! Cornwall, Devon, Derbyshire, Glencoe, the Cairngorms and the Isles of Harris & Lewis were just a few of the places we visited in her… Around this time, we started to think about a lifestyle change, and having enjoyed our own campervan so much, wondered how we could share our love of holidaying in a campervan with other people? The rest, as they say, is history!
Although we were very fond of Brenda, we realised that she was a little long in the tooth to hire to customers, we needed modern & reliable campervans and started to look for a converter. We were particularly impressed with the Auto-Camper conversions, as soon as we saw the campers in the flesh we know they would be perfect for our new venture! Not only are they well equipped, and the perfect size for the Highlands, but they look pretty cool too!
