What is a Duvalay sleeping bag?

This is a question we get asked all the time – so we thought we’d explain what a Duvalay sleeping bag is- and are they a good bedding option for campervans, motorhomes or caravans?
In simple terms, a Duvalay sleeping bag is 2 covers, stitched together to create 2 pockets. One holds a foam mattress topper, the other holds a duvet. This creates a luxury sleeping bag – but unlike a regular sleeping bag, it is only enclosed on 2 sides. Many people find these less constrictive than a traditional sleeping bag.!
2 sleeping bags can also lie side by side. If you have the join on the outside they will create a very cosy double sleeping bag for 2.

Options when purchasing

There are 2 main options when purchasing a Duvalay Sleeping Bag. A stand-alone sleeping bag, or a sleeping bag bundle – but what is the difference we hear you ask?! Let us break it down:

Option 1 - Sleeping bag bundle

This is the complete solution, and includes everything you will need in a great value bundle:
  • 1 mattress topper
  • A 4.5 tog summer duvet and a 10.5 tog winter duvet
  • 2 covers – so you always have a spare
  • 2 pillowcases
  • A storage bag
  • 2 straps to make storing and transportation even easier
Additionally, you can add a pillow.

Option 2 - Sleeping bag bundle

If you don’t need all the extras included in the bundle, then the standalone sleeping bag will be perfect for you. This includes:
  • 1 mattress topper
  • Either a 4.5 tog summer duvet or a 10.5 tog winter duvet
  • 1 cover
  • 2 straps for storing and transportation
You can add pillows, storage bags, covers, pillowcases and duvets. Although the bundle option usually works out better value!

Now you’ve decided on either a bundle or a standalone sleeping bag, you have a few more choices to make…

3 luxury foam options available for my duvalay sleeping bag

Within the Duvalay range, there are 3 main types of foam to choose from.

Compact memory foam creates the smallest and most compact sleeping bag when packed. It uses the thinnest memory foam mattress topper at 2.5cm and is ideal for most applications. When rolled up, the thickness is 34cm with a summer duvet or 36cm with a winter duvet. This makes it ideal for packing away in small lockers.
We use the compact sleeping bags in our campervan hire fleet. They often get a mention when our guests leave us reviews – saying how warm and cosy they are!
Our campervans come fitted with the Titan rock and roll bed. This means the Duvalay sleeping bag can be rolled up and stored behind the seat during the day. When it’s time to making up the bed at night, all you do is lower the bed, open the zipped bag, and lay out the sleeping bags!
The sleeping surface of the Titan rock and roll bed is very flat. So we find that the 2.5cm compact foam is plenty deep enough for a cosy nights sleep.

Comfort memory foam

The comfort range has a thicker memory foam base available in 2 depths – 4cm and 5 cm. They are perfect for those who do have the extra storage space or for those who have a lumpy or uncomfortable bed.

They will mould better to any lumps and bumps in your mattress, giving the feeling of a luxurious bed. And when rolled up the thickness still comes in at only 36cm with a summer duvet or 38cm with a winter duvet fitted.

Freshtec cooling foam

The Freshtec is the most advanced foam available. It is a great alternative to memory foam as it also helps to reduce heat for those who are hot in bed. The open structure allows 30 times more airflow through the foam, helping to keep you cooler. This again comes in 4cm and 5cm thicknesses.
When rolled up, the thickness still comes in at only 38cm with a summer duvet and 40cm with a winter duvet.
